BARS

BARS is a structured approach to airway management. The approach emphasises the importance of a staged response to an airway problem starting with the very basics. The algorithm is modeled on the ALS processes.

The objectives of BARS are:

  • To assess the needs of a patient with a failing airway
  • To understand the treatment options for the airway
  • To develop the skills to implement these options

The emphasis will vary with the training level of the participants. The workshop can be modified to suit the needs of nurses and junior medial staff, as well as forming a framework for interventions by trainees and specialists in Critical Care disciplines.

Instructor Resources:

BARS is also a 90 minute workshop. A complete set of resources for people wanting to run the workshop is available. The teaching resources are available by logging in to the Instructor page.
